INNOVATION & PARTNERSHIPS

A Strategic Collaboration

The key to unlocking true carbon neutrality is discovering and scaling new technologies that can capture, store, or use carbon.

The Future in Action program includes investment in breakthrough technologies by collaborating with other industries and companies that are at the forefront of Carbon Capture, Use, and Storage (CCUS), as well as clean energy generation.

CEMEX Ventures, our venture capital unit, our Research and Development Center in Switzerland, and our internal Smart Innovation process are essential to this strategy that will help us achieve our 2050 goal.

Rüdersdorf Alliance

To accelerate the implementation of these technologies, we have joined the Rüdersdorf Carbon Neutral Alliance, which includes four consortiums and over 20 partners. The alliance is working to turn our Rüdersdorf cement plant, in Germany, into the first net-zero CO2 plant ever.

All findings obtained in the Rüdersdorf Carbon Neutral Alliance will be developed, shared, and adapted to local conditions to accelerate our goal of decarbonizing our main cement plants around the world.

Partnerships

Carbon Clean logo

Over the past 5 years, Carbon Clean has developed a breakthrough technology – CycloneCC, which can effectively and cost-efficiently capture CO2 from industrial processes. The goal of this revolutionary scalable modular technology is to reduce the equipment size by 10 times to reduce the footprint and cost by up to 50%. Making it simpler, much quicker and safer to install so that it’s operational in less than eight weeks.

LEILAC logo

The Low Emissions Intensity Lime & Cement (LEILAC) project seeks to separate the carbon produced from the clinker manufacturing process so the concentrated CO2 resulting can be easily captured or stored.

Smart Innovation logo

Led by CEMEX Ventures, employees are encouraged to submit and identify valuable ideas aligned with the company’s priorities, executing them under agile, transparent, and disciplined processes.

Synhelion logo

Synhelion technology uses solar heat – amplified through hundreds of perfectly angled mirrors – to power cement kilns, thereby eliminating the need for any other sources of fuel, and capturing 100 percent of the carbon emissions, which can then be stored underground or utilized as feedstock for fuel production, enabling cement manufacturing to achieve net-zero level.

CEMEX and BP agreed to collaborate on potential solutions including low carbon power, transport, and energy efficiency, as well as developing urbanization solutions to decarbonize cities.

Volvo logo

CEMEX and Volvo agreed to work closely to reduce the carbon footprint of CEMEX’s fleet while increasing productivity through the global implementation of electromobility solutions on mobile equipment and trucks.
