- CEMEX will supply more than 170 thousand cubic meters of hydraulic concrete to pave 50 kilometers of the La Gloria-San Fernando stretch of the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway, the main commercial land route between Mexico and the United States.
- Carried out in 2019, this major project has an estimated duration of 10 months.
CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) announced today its participation in the paving of a new 50-kilometer section of the Monterrey-Nuevo Laredo highway, considered the main land commercial road between Mexico and the United States. Carried out in 2019, this major infrastructure project has an estimated duration of 10 months.
CEMEX conducted an analysis of the type of soil in the area and, considering the high traffic and weight of the vehicles that travel on this road daily, determined that the best solution was hydraulic concrete with integrated granite; this material offers the highest quality flooring and reduces the possibility that the surface is polished by vehicle traffic, which helps prevent accidents.
To supply more than 170 thousand cubic meters of hydraulic concrete over the 10-month construction period, CEMEX will make available a concrete plant and several pavers, which will enable much quicker and more effective work times, following precise logistics. "To reduce the impact on road users, we will produce and place the concrete at a higher rate, optimizing our equipment and the necessary raw materials to the maximum," said Alejandro Vares, CEMEX Mexico’s Vice President of Sales to Infrastructure and Government.
The use of hydraulic concrete in roads offers various benefits, including greater roadway durability, lower fuel consumption, reduction of the heat island effect, lower energy consumption due to the use of air conditioning, and greater safety by reducing the braking distance. Also, maintenance costs are reduced, as well as the use of electric lights because this material provides greater light reflection.
CEMEX and MAKRO will participate as the project’s paving service suppliers.
Through products and services that facilitate the creation of new communication channels and simultaneously offer benefits to drivers, CEMEX contributes to the improvement of Mexico’s infrastructure, supporting the region’s economic development.
