CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V. (“CEMEX”) (NYSE: CX) continues to strengthen its culture of health and safety by continually engaging with communities, organizations, and of course, employees and contractors to enhance road safety for all users on a global level.
To ensure that nothing comes before the health and safety of its people, contractors, and communities, CEMEX works hard every day to build the best mobility practices. From defensive driving training for truck drivers and awareness raising for cyclists to its participation in nationwide alliances and organizations, CEMEX strives to make roads a safe place where cyclists, motorcyclists, drivers, pedestrians and all users can coexist without incidents.
One of the main goals of these initiatives is to increase safety awareness on streets. To this end, CEMEX continues to carry out several programs in which cyclists, pedestrians, and other vulnerable road users get the opportunity to see and appreciate what is visible from a CEMEX driver’s perspective. While this will be an ongoing initiative, as an example, so far this year, more than 3,500 cyclists and pedestrians have attended such events around the world and taken part by climbing aboard CEMEX’s trucks. With targeted campaigns and action plans throughout its countries of operation, including Colombia, Germany, the United States, and the United Kingdom, just to name a few, CEMEX aims to prevent incidents by educating all the relevant parties and to help them learn each other’s perspective.
CEMEX is also focused on building alliances with organizations and authorities to improve road safety. In France, Mexico, Spain, and many other operations, CEMEX is now an active participant in associations that promote understanding, coexistence, and respect on the road. Moreover, CEMEX has invested over U.S.$13 million in specific safety features included on the company’s trucks to help improve safety on the roads. These items include additional mirrors to increase drivers’ scope of visibility, warning signs, vehicle sensors and camera systems that alert drivers to potential dangers, among many other types of safety equipment. These features are also being added to our regular contractors’ vehicles.
Through these efforts, CEMEX continues to work towards the company’s ultimate target of zero injuries worldwide.
