CEMEX, S.A. de C.V. (NYSE: CX) announced today that it is granting U.S. $3 million to assist with the tsunami relief in Asia to UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund and to SOS Children's Villages.

SOS Children's Village is an international organization devoted to giving children who have lost their parents or who are no longer able to live with their parents a permanent home and a stable environment to grow up in.

From the total donation, U.S. $2.1 million will be committed to SOS Children's Villages in Indonesia and U.S. $900,000 will be destined for relief in Thailand through UNICEF.

The company announced on January 6th, 2005 the creation of a fund in which any contributions made by CEMEX employees would be matched two-for-one by the company, with a minimum corporate contribution of $2 million.

CEMEX's objective is to provide immediate assistance to the affected children through relationships with SOS Children's Villages and UNICEF, with the purpose of ensuring the efficiency of the projects.

Through its donation in Indonesia, CEMEX will be helping SOS Children's Villages to build a "Children's Village" which provide a basic infrastructure as well as a nurturing environment in which children can call a home for the long-term.

In Thailand, UNICEF appealed for resources to support its Emergency Program in the country, which comprises Child Protection, Emergency Education, Water and Environmental Sanitation, Multi-sectoral Emergency Support to Local Authorities, Emergency Communications and Monitoring and Social Policy Analysis.

UNICEF is the only UN agency assisting with tsunami relief in Thailand. The donation made by CEMEX is the third highest grant given to this effort, following the support by the governments of Japan and Ireland.
